Magician Criss Angel”s son has leukaemia
Criss Angel has cancelled his show for the first time in seven years to be with his ill son.
The illusionist flew from Vegas to Australia after his 20-month-old boy Johnny Crisstopher Sarantakos was diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
The 47-year-old native Long Islander, whose real name is Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, broke news on Twitter that not only his son was ill, but that he had a child.
According to the Las Vegas Sun, it is the first time the magician has publicly confirmed he is a father.
‘In light of a family emergency the news I was going to announce this weekend will be postponed. Thank you xc,’ he initially tweeted on Thursday.
The following day he shared a heartbreaking photo without caption of the little toddler hugging his dad as they traveled in the back of a car.
His final post read: ‘Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. Criss’
Angel is currently headlining at the Luxor casino-hotel with his Cirque Du Soleil show, BeLIEve.
But in a statement on Friday, he confirmed he was canceling his shows from that night through November 1.
The statement from the production said the boy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia earlier this week.
It is the first time he has missed a show in more than 3,000 performances. This Halloween he would have celebrated seven years on the Strip.
According to the Sun, he secretly married the toddler’s mother over a year ago, but they split during the summer.
Some of his most famous work includes the television and stage show Mindfreak, as well as his 2002 water torture cell stunt, in which he spent 24 hours shackled and submerged in a water filled chest.
Angel had previously dated Hugh Hefner’s ex Holly Madison, and was most recently linked to Chloe Crawford – herself the ex of another Vegas magician – who recently appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.
Crawford – a Las Vegas showgirl, aspiring illusionist and former Playboy Model – reportedly ended her relationship with Murray Sawchuck in September and has since found romance with Angel.
Talking to The Mirror, a source revealed their blossoming romance, saying: ‘It’s early days, but Chloe and Criss are very happy. They hit it off from day one. Although Murray is putting on a brave face he’s absolutely devastated. It’s a real slap in the face because Criss is his biggest rival.
‘He is more famous, his show is bigger, he takes more money and now he has Chloe as well. Their relationship is the talk of the town in Las Vegas.’
The relationship comes only months after Chloe made it all the way to the semi-final of BGT, wowing both Simon Cowell and David Walliams with her levitating act.
Angel’s ex, Holly Madison, slammed her former lover in her tell-all, Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny. The couple dated in 2008 and 2009.
Holly said she met Criss while living in the Playboy mansion but claims they didn’t date until after splitting from millionaire mogul Hugh Hefner.
She penned that once the pair united, the 47-year-old magician would frequently tip off tabloids to create stories based on ‘candid’ (set up) paparazzi shoots.
Holly also claimed Criss manipulated their relationship to take attention away from his Las Vegas show which was not receiving great reviews at the time.
The mother-of-one said the magic man would ensure bodyguards followed her everywhere, which she found to be ‘awkward and embarrassing.’
Holly soon described controlling behaviour, saying Criss isolated her from her friends, push her to quit her job, and got jealous of her fame. Plus, he had an ‘explosive temper.’
‘For all his fame, fortune, and success, Criss, to me, seemed cripplingly insecure,’ the TV personality wrote.
Holly eventually decided to pursue her own dreams such as her own reality TV series, Holly’s World and Las Vegas dancing show.
She is now married to Pasquale Rotella – whom she wed in 2013 – and the pair have a two-year-old daughter Rainbow Aurora.
